How to restrict content on a child's iPhone or iPad

1. Turn on Screen Time

Settings > Screen Time > Turn On Screen Time

2. Set a Screen Time passcode

Settings > Screen Time > Use Screen Time Passcode (this should be different from the Lock Screen password or your Apple ID password)

3. Set up Content & Privacy Restrictions toggle to On

You can:

Prevent iTunes & App Store purchases

Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Choose a setting > Don’t Allow

Require Password > switch to Always Require

Restrict built-in apps and features

Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps > Select the apps and switch the toggle On or Off

Prevent explicit content and content ratings

Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content restrictions > Allowed Store Content:

  • Ratings For: United States (or your country)
  • Music, Podcasts & News > Clean
  • Music Profiles & Posts > Off (to prevent sharing)
  • Movies > G, PG, or PG-13
  • TV shows > TV-Y (all children), TV-Y7 (7 and above), TV-G (all ages), TV-PG (parental guidance), TV-14 (over 14). 
  • Books > Clean
  • Apps: Prevent apps with specific age ratings
